Nueva Tabarca

Nueva Tabarca

If you are staying at a campsite near the city of Alicante, you can take the opportunity to visit the nearby island of Tabarca (Isla Plana or Nueva Tabarca), a small archipelago formed by the main island, three islets (La Cantera, La Galera and La Nao) and numerous reefs, which was declared a Mediterranean Marine Reserve in 1986.

Tabarca is about 22 kilometres from Alicante, about 8 km from the port of Santa Pola and just over 4300 metres from the cape of this town. It is the largest island in the Valencian Community and the only inhabited one. It has an approximate length of 1,800 metres and a maximum width of 400 metres, and the walls that surround its urban centre have been declared a Historic-Artistic Site and an Asset of Cultural Interest. The first houses were built in the 18th century.
